The Upper School topic this term is ‘Beans’ 

In English this term we are learning to improve our writing skills, we are focusing on the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Some children are developing their pre writing skills, some children are learning their letter formation and other children are learning to use adjectives to describe a character and create a wanted poster for Jack or the Giant.

 In Geography we are learning about the world around us. We are focusing on both rich and poor continents around the world. Within our topic of beans we are looking at where different beans are grown. Some children have been matching photos to the different countries and naming the beans that are grown their and other pupils have started to make a fact book about the different countries.

 Our offsite visits have included visiting Sainsbury’s to look for different products that contain vanilla. The children found vanilla ice cream, vanilla biscuits, vanilla icing, vanilla milkshake and many other products. We then brought them back to school to taste. Everyone in class agreed that vanilla tastes good.

In cooking we are making recipes using different types of beans. This will include cheese and bean pasties, Kidney bean quesadillas and mild coffee cakes.
